Let this mind be in you

“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 2:5

For years I allowed myself to have an undisciplined thought life and as a result, I had no peace. I would be so consumed with all kinds of thoughts and had grown so accustomed to it that I thought it was normal. As I began to learn more and grow in the Lord, He began to show me that His will for me is soundness of mind.

A sound mind is a calm mind. It is a peaceful and focused mind. It is a mind at rest. In writing to the believers in Philippi, the Apostle Paul wrote, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” The word “let” tells us we can either fight against the mind of Christ or yield to the mind of Christ. It’s completely up to us. If we want to experience a peaceful, focused mind that is at rest, we would have to yield to the Lord.

The moment we yield to the mind of Christ that is within us, those thoughts can no longer roam freely, unchecked, robbing us of our peace. The Spirit of Christ helps us bring every thought into submission to our Father. The Spirit of Christ helps us remember to take thoughts captive that go against what His word says. He empowers us to cast down empty and vain imaginations that gives us a different picture than what God has revealed to our spirit. Yield to the mind of Christ that you have received, and walk in the peace of God.
